Leak test
A leak test is used to determine the tightness of wastewater pipes. The pipe system must be tight to prevent contamination of soil and groundwater by leaking dirty water and to protect our environment. The leakage of clean water into defective pipe systems also generates unnecessary costs in the cleaning of wastewater, which the taxpayer must bear in the end.
Legal situation
According to § 59/60/61a of the Water Resources Act in conjunction with DIN 1986-30, every owner of private property is obliged to inspect all private property drainage pipes and manholes of domestic sewage systems for condition and tightness.
Attention: In water protection areas, much shorter deadlines apply! These deadlines can be changed by cities and municipalities in connection with a municipal wastewater disposal concept, a sewer rehabilitation concept or a municipal extraneous water concept. In any case, a change of deadline requires the enactment of a municipal bylaw. The municipalities are expressly obliged to inform and advise the property owners!
In the case of new construction, as-built plans must be drawn up for all pipes in accordance with DIN EN 1610 in conjunction with ATV A 139 and the tightness must be certified.
